Our History & Your Experience
OUR HISTORY
Le Manoir emerges from more than two decades devoted to international etiquette, protocol and the study of cultural refinement through Minding Manners International, founded in 2003 in the heart of Paris on Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré.
In 2017, this work expanded to London with the establishment of the International Etiquette & Protocol Academy of London, offering modular finishing programmes and certification trainings within the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.
Le Manoir represents the residential cultural expression of that continuity.
In 2023, the house welcomed its first private residential guest near Bergerac, in the Dordogne. What began as consultancy and academy has gradually found its natural extension in residence.
Here, refinement is not only studied. It is lived.
Bienvenue.
THE SETTING
Le Manoir is situated near Bergerac, designated a Town of Art and History by the French Ministry of Culture. At its centre stands the statue of Cyrano de Bergerac, whose literary spirit continues to animate the town’s square — a reminder that language, wit and honour remain woven into the region’s cultural fabric.
The Dordogne moves at a measured pace. Medieval villages rise in golden stone. Vineyards trace the curves of wooded hills. Rivers follow their course with quiet continuity.
The region is shaped as much by its table as by its landscape. Local markets unfold according to season. Vineyards anchor the hillsides with generational continuity. Nearby Michelin-starred restaurants reflect a discipline of craft — attention to sequence, proportion and detail.
Here, gastronomy is not indulgence.
It is ritual.
Courses unfold with intention.
Conversation accompanies structure.
Hospitality carries quiet hierarchy.
Conversation is unhurried.
Meals unfold deliberately.
Time is observed rather than managed.
The setting does not simply surround the practice.
It sustains it.
THE HOUSE
The estate comprises three separate buildings: the Manor House, the Dovecote and the Stables, each positioned within meadow and garden to create a sense of quiet enclosure. Guests are received not simply as students, but as country-house residents.
The Manor House centres around a living room anchored by a working fireplace, with double-aspect windows opening onto meadow and pond. At the front of the house, the gentle sound of the fountain can be heard through open windows — a constant and unhurried presence. Most bedrooms are ensuite or accompanied by a private bathroom, arranged for comfort and privacy.
Mornings begin on the terrace, where breakfast is taken informally. Lunch extends into the garden when weather allows, beneath open sky. In the evening, the dining room gathers the house with greater formality and warmth.
The library holds a carefully chosen collection of works on etiquette, culture and history — a quiet place for study or reflection before the day unfolds further. Beyond it, the terrace overlooks the garden and offers a natural setting for an apéritif as light softens toward dusk.
Free hours may be spent swimming in the heated outdoor pool, playing tennis or croquet on the grounds, or riding horseback along nearby trails. Or they may pass more quietly — beneath the shade of mature trees with a book in hand, or beside the stream that borders the estate, where conversation gives way to stillness.
It is lived in — deliberately and attentively, with elegant composure.
IN PRACTICE
Le Manoir is an elegant country house, and dress follows the understated logic of place. Gravel softens the step; heels yield to the ground. Ties are set aside. Elegance adjusts to landscape without diminishing its form.
There is no insistence here.
Only proportion.
Pearls need not accompany the morning light, though they may return easily at dusk, when candlelight gathers and The French Touch calls for a touch more ceremony. Days unfold with intention rather than urgency. Conversation lengthens. Meals take their time. Silence is not hurried away. Structure remains — but it breathes.
Le Manoir does not impose an experience. It refines it.
Here, performance is not theatrical. It is poised.
Not exaggerated.
But precise.
